Why
Get Organized?
Does
that seem like a silly question? Gosh, doesn’t everyone want to be organized?
Yes, but being organized means different things to different people.
Here are some possible motivations:
Relief from visual clutter
Easily finding what you need
Having a home you enjoy inviting friends to visit
Recovering from a big life change that’s disrupted your previous
system…new baby; new job; new house; divorce; death in family
Finding internal peace
It’s
important to know why you’ve decided to get organized. Getting
organized can be as simple as getting to the bottom of that pile of mail on
your desk or as complex as overhauling your entire house.
Even if it’s a small-scale project, organizing is rarely a one-time
effort. If you are organizing because you think you should, or because you fear
disapproval, or because family members are pressuring you, I urge you to come
up with your own positive reasons. It's easier to be motivated by the carrot
than the stick. A goal that you have chosen, the results of which will really
improve your quality of life, is a great incentive. One way to do that is by
creating a vision of the life you want.
For me, I can have no internal peace when I am surrounded by chaos and disorder and clutter. It is critical for me to be organized in my life. From my morning and evening routines, to the food I eat, to how much I move every day, to what I schedule into my day and even to what is on my coffee table. I have internal peace when I pay attention to my environment and stay organized.
As you take two minutes to consider peace for our world today think about what you can do to maintain your internal peace by bringing organization into the centre of your life.
